Do’s and Don’ts of Laser treatment

Taking laser treatment for hair removal or any other cosmetic procedure is very common these days. I am going to share few tips here which you can keep in mind before going for laser treatment and few post care instructions.

Pre Laser tips-
  • Avoid a tan or Sunburn – Before going for laser hair removal treatments one should be at their lightest skin tone at the time of treatment. Even a slight suntan can hinder the laser light’s ability to pass through your skin and heat the hair follicle. If you’re light skinned with a tan, the treatment is more difficult than if you’re dark skinned with no tan.
  • Do not wax, bleach or pluck- Don’t wax, bleach or pluck your hair at least two weeks before a treatment. The hairs will naturally remove from the follicle with the coagulation of the protein after laser. By plucking, bleach or waxing you are not allowing this process to happen when the hair is ready.
  • Avoid peeling – Avoid chemical peels and exfoliating skin treatments before 10 days to your appointment of laser treatment. These may negatively affect your skin’s reaction to laser treatments.
  • No Skin active infection- If you already have some skin infection on your skin or has cold sores then consult your doctor before going for laser treatment.

Post Laser tips-
  • Cold compress – It is common to experience some redness and bumps after a treatment and a cold compress helps in this scenario. Apply cool packs or cool moist cloth on the treated area.
  • Sun block lotion – Laser hair removal treatments can temporarily make your skin sensitive to sunlight. It is mandatory to apply SPF 30 or higher for a

Happy Summers

The sun is the ultimate culprit for skin ageing and excessive exposure can weaken the skin’s immunity to the sun and lead to skin cancer. More than 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to skin ageing are caused by the sun.

Using sunscreen lotion or cream is a must factor during summers.  Taking care of your skin can protect you from the harsh rays especially ultraviolet rays of the sun and lower your risks of developing skin cancer. It doesn't matter if you are male or female; you need photo protection every time you step out in sun.

You may even skip a moisturiser but never a sunscreen. One should use a sunscreen according to their skin types, like gel based for oily skin or a lotion or a thicker texture for dry skin.

Some believe we do not need a sunscreen when indoors even though we are indoors there are UVA rays passing through everything though in

Prepare well in this Holi

By Dr. Neetu Saini

Holi is never complete without colors bright colors, lavish sweets, water balloons and
melodious songs are the perfect ingredients of Holi.

Traditionally, colors were made up from flowers and herbs. But with time, dyes have replaced these natural ingredients. Make sure that it doesn’t do any sort of severe damage to your skin or hair. Harsh chemicals in these colors can cause itching and rashes which can lead to eczemas upon scratching.

Every time during holi period, we heard that people suffers due to the use of colors that contains harmful chemicals. Extreme usage of these chemicals into your skin not only harms it but can leads to serious lifestyle issue also. Gone are those days when people use natural gulal or scented flowers for holi. Now-a -days colors are made up of acids, mica, glass powder and alkalis which cause serious injuries like eczema, redness, blisters, extreme redness and flaking of skin. To minimize the potential effects of these on the skin and hair, it's best to take precautions.

Please go by these useful tips mentioned below for your hair and skin protection

Get prepared – Dry skin leaves a lot of scope for these harmful chemicals as the skin layer allows the color to penetrate easily so it’s always good to moisturize your skin well and also oil your hair before started playing holi so that the color couldn’t get absorb easily on your skin and hair. The cream acts as a barrier and does not let the pores of the skin soak up the colors directly.

Use natural colors: It’s always best to use natural colors that are made from turmeric and flowers. They are not only safe for the skin but can also be washed off easily. Apart from this you can use more of red or pink colors, which can easily be taken off. Gaudy ones like purple, green, yellow and orange have more harmful chemicals in them and should be avoided.

Wear loose clothes - Wear clothes that cover most of your body. Avoid heavy fabrics like denim that don’t dry easily try wearing cotton fabrics.

Take care of your eyes too - Don’t wear lenses when you go out to play. While Holi colors cause irritability, lenses have a tendency to absorb the color, thereby making things worse. Wear glasses and keep wiping them clean from time to time.

Keep yourself away from sunlight - Avoid sitting in the hot sun, with the colors still on your face or body, after playing holi, especially if you have used chemical colors. This makes the colors stronger and difficult to wash off. Sit in a shade even if you are outdoors.

The Lighter and Brighter You

Skin pigmentation, dark spots on the face, tanning is so common in Indian skin tone as if we are born with it. But it’s not like that. You can easily measure the skin tone of your face with the body parts which are usually covered and are less exposed to sun. You will get to know that we are not born with the dark skin, it is all caused by sun UV rays.

Added to this we have daily lifestyle stress, hormonal imbalance which gives us dry, dark, patchy and uneven skin tone.

But thanks to the technology and medical science we can now fight with such skin problems like pigmentation. A harmful sun UV ray is the major culprit in causing pigmentation. So first and foremost use a broad spectrum sun screen to protect your skin from the damage. SPF 30 and above is an ideal one to use in India when stepping out in day time this can block the UV rays which aggravates melanin production that causes uneven skin tone.

You can consult a certified dermatologist who can recommend you to use creams that contains kojic acid and vitamin c extracts that can be applied under the sunscreen to block excessive melanin production

Apart from this if your skin is severely damaged then you can go for chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatment. It is the most easy de-pigmentation treatment for fast results. This not only will clear your brown patches but also improves the overall skin tone. The combination of both chemical peels and microdermabrasion can work wonders for you as it sands down your skin’s surface layer by directing a steady flow of micro crystals while brusing your skin with a rotating brush used in the treatment.

Patients with lines on the faces, wrinkles, age spotting etc. are the ideal candidates for this treatment.

We at LesCosmedics are providing chemical peels and microdermabrasion treatment. We have the skilled and certified dermatologist who can carry out the procedures very well.
